Mission Move
Did you know that lots of military kids like you move every year? Hi! I’m Miss Kitty, a member of the PALZ Special Operations Team. We help military kids have fun while learning about moving.
I’ve gone undercover to gather all the information you need to know about moving, something military families do often. Here’s what I discovered:
Getting ready for a military move will keep your whole family busy! There are lots of plans to be made and boxes to pack. You might hear your parents using lots of new words related to moving too. Just so you know, the military calls a move a PCS.

PALZ On The Move
You may be wondering, why do I have to move? In the military, your parent may need to change their job. That means the whole family will be moving to a new duty station in a new state or even a new country.
So how does all of the stuff in your house get to your new home? It’s pretty simple.
Someone packs everything into boxes. Those boxes get loaded on a truck. The truck driver takes your stuff to your new house.
Ways To Say Goodbye
I also learned before you move you should say goodbye to your friends, teachers, coaches and neighbors that will not move with you because they have their own adventures. Smilla and her teammates came up with a few ideas of how to say goodbye. Talk to your parents to see what might work for you.
PALZ Planning Your Move
When your parents tell you it’s time to move, it is normal to have lots of questions. My PALZ teammate Smilla had lots of thoughts about her first move too, so our PALZ team helped her write down all her questions. You can use Smilla’s questions to help you talk to your parents about moving.
Staying in Touch
I discovered you can even stay in touch with friends even after you move to your new home. You can write letters to one another! Before leaving your old home, collect your friends’ addresses and phone numbers to make this easier. The PALZ team already created an address form for you!
Finally, my teammate Mr. Lucky and I created some fun activities for your car or airplane trip. Bart, another member of our team, tested them out. He’s certain you will have fun with these activities. Before you know it, you and your family will arrive at your new home town!
